Still alive and sculpting

After a couple weeks embracing Nurgle's gifts over the holiday, I'm finally back in my hobby room. Still, coughing.... but back.  I got some milliput for the "undersculpt on the Greater Deamon thing. I've never used it so I figure I could use it for the form and greenstuff the details over the top as needed. Its pretty neat stuff, reminds me a lot of clay. It will be interesting to see what I can do with it. Its like stone when its hard to.  So here's the basics, so far.....

The battle plan is to use an aluminum foil core, milliput around that and then greenstuff for details. We'll see how that changes as work begins.  Also have a grandious idea for 2019 called "The Army of DOOooom 2.0" which will include a new (and finally finished) painting direction for my Chaos Space Marine army, which might actually get some use. No major repaints, as most of the models are in like stage 1, basic colors. But I'm experimenting with some textured paints, shades and such to get the desired effect.  One thing I have managed to work on while sick was the backstory of DOOoom and his armies, which I'm putting together for this great endeavor as well.  SO....should be fun.

AND..... does he need another big eye on the left side or is it me?

In the meantime, these dummies are about to be experimented on......

Cheers ya'll!

Mr. Chops and friends....

Not sure why, but he's got skulls and faces in his arm. He's Mr. Chops!!!! So, my wayward Gellerpox mutant has had some work done on his arm, which I'm calling "pretty much done".

AND... I started work on his gaping maw.......  no, not his mum, his mouth......

Just roughing out the shape, but I figure I'll use the belly mouths as a guide. I might put a nose on top, but otherwise he just has a few small eyes on his arm, so far. I might add a few here and there... or I might stick with the mostly blind.  To me that makes him a bit creepier.

Cheers y'all!!!

Spawns and Pox

After some feedback online about Harvey-Brent. I decided to beef up his claw arm, which looked a bit wimpy. I usually hate to sculpt over something painted, but....

I got my mitts on the Gellerpox Infected sprues.  So, more spawn or the like. Of course, they need a bit of "rednekkin'".  First up, "flyguy"

And, "Cleaver"...

Still have to figure out what to do for a head on this guy. There's also the tentacle guy, who is VERY cool....and needs a great big eye.

Cheers y'all!

Harvey/Brent - in Progress.

A quick update on the spawn- Harvey/Brent.   He's pretty far along, but not quite done.

Still got to do some detailing. He looks a bit "flat" to me right now.  I did want to try some of the crackle mediums on parts of his skin, but once again, I bought one that seems to be low on crackle. Going to head to the hobby shop tomorrow and try one more time.... I really need to get some that works to complete my evil plans.  I can use the not so crackly stuff for bases in the meantime.

Cheers y'all!

Da Kunnin' but Brutal plan.

It might be hard for some to believe, but I'm an Ork Mek at heart.  The whole "Rednekkboss" isn't some much because I'm a redneck (though I was brought up as one..... I'm one of those "know-it-all collige boy" rednecks what thinks theyz so smart")... its because my homebrew Ork tribe are called Da Rednekkz and ...well, I'm their boss. I also love-love-LOVE!!!!! the entire idea/concept of Ork space pirates, so the army- which I tick away at, but haven't played in years- is a mix of Freebootas and Rednekks.  With the new Ork codex and clan rules, I have to make some decisions.

I'm going to guess the crowd bandwagon will probably be Deathskulls. Hundreds, if not thousands of Ork warbands are likely being repainted blue as I write this, with narry a care for blue daubed Orks in the past.  In their defense, the Rednekks have always favored the blue and the lootin' ways, since stealing and looting broke rusty stuff is as redneck as fishing for catfish. At the same time, the Freebooters ahve been "officially" recognized for their sinful ways, though admittedly- in game turns- the Deathskull clan rules rock over the Freebooter ones.

Its all sort of academic, I have a LOT to do to get the army ready to play and the asthetic is pretty much set. But between pooring over my ancient copy of "Freebooters" and the new book, I was suddenly hit with a crazy , sort of nautically themed idea......

Plus gubbins and crazy mek stuff.... could equal THIS.....

....but with much Dakka and Orks, squigs and grots!!!! Seems there'd be lots of parts laying around if the Orks were able to take a marine drop zone. ;)

I'm not at home for the next few days, but there's likely to be some scribbling and scheming on these ideas, plus a few others.

If you are celebrating any sort of Thanksgiving holiday this week, I hope its a good one.

Cheers, y'all!!!!!

Gribbly-gribbly before the gobble-gobble

Got some progress done on the Maggoth -> Greater Daemon conversion before I head off to the in-laws for the Thanksgiving holiday.

This bit is potentially, a bit more disturbing than the rest. Kind of a creepy, body part filled poot out the front, but its going to have something living coming out of it.... think about that for a bit.  Yeah..... that'll help you keep them taters and turkey down, huh.....

AND.... I had a bit of greenstuff left over, so I put it on this guy who has been hanging around the desk....

That's all for a week or so. Off to the coast for a little turkey, relaxation and fishing. Catch y'all in a week.

Something Unclean this way comes...

I've been kicking an idea around for a while and decided to act on it..... instead of spending the time trying to finish my painting challenge.......  ........ of course.

I've been wanting to do my own take on some Daemons.  I did a few sketches and came up with a Great Unclean One...uh, thing, that has a maggot like thorax and drags it around with two arms.  Basically answering the question "what am I going to do with that Maggoth model I bought on a whim years ago?"

I'm still working out the engineering on the body, but I've started sculpting on the head and back, so here's what I have so far.......

Cute, huh?  More eyes, more tentacles. Nurgle meets Lovecraft kind of stuff to come.

On other fronts, I've begun the stripping of some old minis and some not so old ones. Got some big Chaos filled plans for the near future, so keep an eye on this spot ....and if you are on instagram, look me up. I post shots while I'm working on there, so there can be other content.

Cheers Ya'll!!

A Half Century in the Making!!!!

I just got back from "holiday"- as my mates across the pond would say- in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains of New York. It was a bit colder than here in Orlando, Florida.  And I enjoyed every single minute of it. This is the top of Rocky Mountain, near Inlet NY, looking down on the 4th lake of the Fulton Chain.  Nice place to reflect on turning 50. Yup.... the ol' Rednekk is half a century old, kids. I have officially reached "old fart" status, and I'm fighting it like hell. ;)

Now back in the sub-tropics, I'm back at painting minis.  Working on my Call of Chaos challenge for Bolter & Chainsword.  During my break, of course, I came up with some great ideas I want to start on.... but I went and saddled myself with the painting challenge beforehand.  I have to finish by December 15, which is achievable is I just focus on what's left.  We'll see if my impatience leads me astray.....

Progress on Harvey-Brent, the chaos spawn. Still a ways to go, since he has lots of detail...

Then, on to the two remaining Sentenels....

Working on all the fleshy gribbly parts first because its the messiest and most time consuming.  Once they are done, I work in the rust and chipped paint, then the bases.  They are complex models, which I actually built years ago. Its interesting to paint something you haven't done recently.

Now here's the problem(s). Kill Team. Ork Codex. Nighthaunt models. Awesome idea for a Great Unclean One conversion, etc,etc,etc.......   Once I finish the above models, can I stay the course and finish the 28 or so infantry models I need to finish for the challenge or will I get side tracked by one of the above.  I'm working on a Kill Team comic (more on that later- if you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen some of the first character sketches)... so the desire to build some of the characters is fierce.  We'll see how it pans out.

In the meantime, here's a deer.....

..... he really wanted my apple.

Cheers Ya'll!

Paint is just a'flyin'!!!

Been painting up a storm. Worked a big event at my part time gig and dealing with The Grandfather's latest blessings of a sinus infection. But, I've taken the Bolter & Chainsword challenge to heart and got stuff done.

First up, Daryll the sentinel!!

And, he has friends......

One of the Missile Teams for Red Platoon.....

For the Camoflage...... On a drab brown base, little blobs of Iraqi Sand, then Chardonite Granite.  See? Simple. Piddly. Time consuming. But, simple.

In progress is another sentinel and the endless infantry.  Hopefully, the lads will get a game in soon too.  Going on a pilgrimage to the Adirondak Mountains and the old homestead toward the end of the month, so I'll see what I can get done before then.  I could be distracted that is the evil of Killteam and my fervant desire to build something instead of paint.  Plus I have an evil idea for a converted Great Unclean One.  Lots of stuff coming down the pike!

Cheers Y'all!

The excitement of batch painting.

SO... I'm just plugging along on the renegade platoon, blocking in basic colors.

I plan to vary the uniform colors a bit here and there. The color pallette will be pretty close, but I want to make these folks look like they have scavanged armor and uniforms to some degree. In places I'll bring in some of the camoflage from the vehicles.   I got my last bunch of heads in the mail too, so the sergeants are a bit easier to pick out.

The gang got their first field test (as Valhallans with the Imperial Guard Codex) They lost against a combination of Death Guard and Daemons. I even tried out a flyer.  A full battle report will follow.

Cheers Ya'll!

More to come.  Cheers Y'all!

The Call of Chaos 2018

Another year, another painting challenge. This one is usually hard to complete because of holidays and such, but I'm going after it again.  Even a near miss is still a win when you end up with finished minis.

By December 15, I am to finish this lot....

A Master of Artillery
Harvey-Brent the Chaos Spawn
3 Sentinels
And 3 Squads of Traitor Guard
(a couple of these guys are missing heads, but I just got them yesterday in the mail!!)

In the meantime, I finished up this old Rhino to gift to a friend for his Death Guard Army.....

Lots of painting to do. Not sure how I'm going to approach it, but I'll figure that out today. Hopefully, I can not get distracted by my mail orders this week which are FINALLY on their way.

Cheers Y'all!

A Leaner, Meaner Basilisk.

I decided to upgrade the StuG to not only look meaner, but represent the Basilisk.  Here's the old configuration....

Since I never seem to throw anything away, I actually found the old long barrel for the main gun. A quick bit of sanding and gluing and ...BAM!  Long barrel!   Then to paint the camo....

First frame:  Iraqi Sand shapes over the Brown Drab.

Second frame: Chardonite Granite pattern.

Third Frame: Weathering powders and some dry brush to match the rest of the tank.

And here she is in all her glory....

I'm going to play a game tomorrow and I think I'll give the Guard a shot.  They'll probably be slaughtered since I'm facing Death Guard, but it'll be fun to see how the orders work and the tanks hold up. There's also a pretty good chance (if the store has it)... that there might be a couple armigers added to the mix, unless I get really squirrelly and come home with a Baneblade!! :)  So another battle report will be happening soon.

In other news, I have the miniatures figured out for 3 platoons ( 3 squads, plus officer) with a few weapon options.  Still waiting on mail orders, when you might start to see the genestealer cult filtered into the army as well.  I have a couple squads complete, so once I finish off these sentinals I'm going to start working my way through the squads. I hope to get one squad per platoon done and plan on making the squad markings the same color in each platoon.

One other note. Working on the StuG last night, I realized I have the parts (minus the actual StuG kit) to convert another one, so I skulked around the interwebs looking for a kit.  Another one is likely. So is a Leman Russ Thunderer (Demolisher cannon Assault Gun)  I'll have an Assault Gun Platoon!  :)

Cheers Y'all!

Traitors and more traitors!

I've built a ton of infantry of late. I decided to get the whole army out to see what it looked like and see if I had enough special weapons and the like.  Its bigger than I thought it was. And not with organized.  Since I have the rules/cards etc for the Guard army, that's how I'm organizing it, but the same minis will/could be used with my Genestealer Cult and with the Renegade & Traitor Forgeworld list if desired.  Here's a picture of the gang  (in various stated of construction/painting)

8 Infantry squads (2 platoons), 2 command squads, enough for 2 special weapons squads, extra special weapons for options, commisar, artillery officer, psyker and heavy stubber guys for use with other lists.  3 sentinals. 4 leman russ. 1 Devil Dog and 1 Griffon/Basilisk (Stug)  I have a mail order coming in of arms and torsos and the like, so everyone should be all together soon. I also have 30 cultists that could be used as conscripts. Also have priests and crusaders planned as well as some other goodies.  Plus 20 Stormtroopers(probably) To build there are Ogryn, 2 Valkyries, another Devil Dog and about 7-8 vehicle conversions.   So... its frikkin HUGE.  Eventually I'd like to add a Baneblade or some big walkers, but I'm going to AT LEAST try to get everything built before then.  As a somewhat proud side note..... I really love the way the camoflage on the tanks works at a distance. :)

While I wait for mail orders, I'm going to get painting on a long, long overdue project. The Sentinals.

Been updating photos of painted minis. I've been trickling them on Instagram as I take them and will start doing a couple with each post here too.  Eventually, I'll update my gallery at my website and such.  Might even start taking a few miniature commisions...eventually.  I'd really love to get some of my own backlog done. Just not enough hours in the week between normal life, artwork and miniatures. lately I've been pulling one or two allnighters a week.  Which gets a bit tougher/ more painful as you creep up on the half century mark.

ANYWAYS.... here's Blinky....

AND Mr. J-pox with some of his posse.....

Cheers Y'all!
